I recently had the opportunity to spend some quality time with these beautiful ladies who I haven’t seen in far too long. I’ve known them more than 20 years and, unfortunately, it gets harder and harder for our schedules to sync up allowing us to get together. I cannot tell you the last time all four of us occupied the same space. I can, however, tell you that they are the BEST group of girlfriends I have the privilege of knowing.
The night actually started out with five of us but one of us had a date. I could tell she really wanted to stay and hang out (NOT). One friend had to walk me through making oven-baked beans (I’d never made the before) and oh how she grumbled, until I gave her a drink and she shut right up. Another friend, showed up 1 1/2 hours late with the main course–she clearly won’t be given such a grave responsibility next time. We forgave her because she had a good excuse, but we were way more excited for the food to arrive than her.
Even with those starts and stops, we had a great time together. We laughed. We drank. We ate. We drank some more. We took selfies…for which some of us actually put make up on!! We listened to music and danced, err, rather I tried to show them some of my moves but they just laughed at me (I actually think they were jealous).
I mean really…we were in the house and she’s already beautiful!!! Big sigh, I suppose she was keeping it classy since two of us refused to put on makeup in protest.
Okay, so it wasn’t exactly a coordinated, staged protest…more like a silent ‘no makeup’ protest!
I tried to convince one of my friends that her purse looked great on me and she should just let me have it.
But she was not trying to ‘gift’ me with the purse (and she calls herself my friend!). Friends let friends have purses, don’t they? Don’t let her smile fool you, she was dead serious about not giving me her purse–she actually hid it from me at one point, in my own house!!!
Overall we had a blast and created some great, and long overdue, memories. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going.
When was the last time you got together with your best friends? What did you all do?
Side note: we clearly need to work on our selfie techniques!
And if you’re wondering, the baked beans turned out fabulous! The key is to add brown sugar, molasses, bacon and mustard and bake them at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes…yummy stuff.
